Do Essential Oils Provide Nutrients?

Back in 2010, when I really began studying and using essential oils I started to see a phrase start popping up on car windows, billboards and on websites.

The phrase was this:

“There is an oil for that!”

I questioned that phrase the more I got into essential oils. Now, don’t get me wrong, essential oils are my world! I eat, sleep, and drink essential oils and essential oil research on a daily basis! But essential oils cannot do everything.

Essential oils in their most basic sense are communicators. When experienced, they help the body to better communicate between nerves and systems to help create greater balance. Essential oils can potentially aid every system of the body, but there is one thing they do not do.

Essential oils do not provide long-term nutrients, or rather the daily amount needed for the body to function, they can improve how the body uses certain nutrients, but we have to get nutrients from another source.

I want to share with you two liver nutrients I like to use, why I use them and how often I use them. These are just products I like, and I receive no financial benefit from you clicking on the links. This is purely informational.

A key point to remember is that I am using these products as nutrients as opposed to detoxifiers. I also do not use these products at the same time and am only using one or the other in a day.

Solaray Liver Blend SP-13 – This is a more traditional North American formulation with Milk Thistle and other herbs that may help support liver function. This is my favorite product by Solaray.

Why I use it – It contains herbs that have tonic, anti-inflammatory, repairing and cleansing capacity. Research has shown these herbs to have hepatoprotective properties.

How often I use it – Remember, I am using this as a nutrient more than a detoxifier. The bottle says to take one capsule three times a day. My body is super sensitive to supplements and oils in general. I take one capsule in the morning with my breakfast for three days in a row and then gauge how I feel.
I ask questions like the following: Should I continue three more days, take it twice a day, or do I need a break. Furthermore, I find I do not ever need to take this supplement three times a day.

Liver Blend Sp-13 – Solaray

Himalaya LIVERCARE – This company makes some fantastic products, and this product is more of an Ayurvedic (Indian) herbal formulation without the traditional Milk Thistle. I really like the herb Yarrow and its amazing capacity combined with the other nutrients.

Why I use it – This gives my body many phytonutrients, which I feel are needed during the stressful time of eating. It is a great product, but I use it very differently than the Solaray product. I use it as a proactive approach to protecting the liver during eating.

How I use it – This is a blend of herbs that are meant to be taken before a meal to help protect the liver during eating and the breakdown of nutrients. I take one capsule right before dinner time. It can be taken up to two times a day, but I find I do well with once a day.

If someone were seeking to repair the liver, they may look at taking this twice a day, but be sure to discuss it with your healthcare practitioner.

Reminder:
Check with your healthcare practitioner before beginning a new supplement regimen.
In order to use supplements well, I have to stop and listen to my body. I ask myself do I feel more energy with this supplement? Do I sense my digestive system is less stressed?

Is it cleansing my bowels too much, just right, or stopping me up?

Does this supplement cause me any additional discomfort?

Success with anything depends on your goal. Don’t just take a supplement to take it, have a goal in mind.
The above supplements are great on their own and someone may find just taking one of these is great, so listen to your body. I only wanted to share with you a few options I use when seeking to fortify my liver and filtering systems of the body from a nutrient standpoint.
