You Are Not What You Eat

We are not what we eat so much as we are what we absorb. They are not the same thing. We can only utilize what we absorb. There are so many factors to create great digestion, but one of the most important is having efficient digestive enzyme production. Enzyme deficiency can have a dramatic effect on our minds and bodies.

When I was first diagnosed with a rare autoimmune liver disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis I began to study not only essential oils, but also more about digestive enzymes. I found when I added plant based digestive enzymes to my diet digestion happened so much faster.

Digestive enzymes are not the same thing as a probiotic. Sometimes people get probiotics and enzymes mixed up. They are quite different.

Enzymes are proteins that act as catalysts to accelerate chemical reactions in the body. Digestion as a whole is a massive group of chemical reactions happening in order to give your system the fuel and nutrients it needs. There are many types of enzymes, but we will focus only on digestive enzymes today.

When I say that enzymes can accelerate processes, I mean it. Some aspects of absorption that could take 24 hours can happen in mere seconds with the help of an enzyme. Adding plant based digestive enzymes to your diet can have amazing benefits. Especially for those over 40 years of age.

Enzymes have what is called “specificity” or in other words they are very specialized in how they work. I am going to name some types of enzymes and what their specialties are below:

1.      Protease – breaks down only proteins

2.      Lipase – breaks down only lipids

3.      Cellulase – breaks down cellulose

4.      Invertase – breaks down table sugars

5.      Lactase – breaks down lactose (we hear about so many people being lactose intolerant because when dairy milk is pasteurized the natural enzymes to help us break down dairy are destroyed)

6.      Amylase – breaks down starches (great for those of us that were born and raised in Idaho and who love our potatoes!)

These are just a few enzymes in the body. I take different digestive enzymes for different things, but I mostly take a broad-spectrum plant based digestive enzyme that contains many of the enzymes I mentioned above.

Every meal I eat with enzymes and the difference is amazing for me. It is night and day.

Here are a few brands that I have seen great success with. I do not receive anything from these companies I just want you to know about their products:
Evince Naturals Digest Plus – https://evincenaturals.com/shop/digestplus-help-digest-fats-carbs-protein/

This is a great broad spectrum digestive enzyme that I have used for years and done very well with.

Dynamic Enzymes – https://dynamicenzymes.com/digestive-enzymes/

This is a great company for more specific digestive enzymes (such as gluten or fat digestion focused) and their more broad based digestive enzymes are great as well.
Enzymes are key to almost every chemical reaction in the body from nerve impulses in the brain, breathing, the beating of the heart to digestion, obviously.

When you and I have sufficient enzymes our immune systems are working at optimal levels. When we lack digestive enzymes other systems of the body are not able to function at their best.
Think of enzymes as the activators in the body. You may ask where essential oils fit in all of this?

It is simple, enzymes are the activators (engine) and essential oils are more like the deliverers (drivers of the car) of the message.

They work synergistically to support better communication and absorption throughout the body.

If you were to ask me, “Gavin, what are more important essential oils or digestive enzymes?” I would tell you, essential oils and digestive enzymes are both necessary. I take them both with me wherever I go.

Reach out with any questions and make today amazing!

Keep smiling and essential oil on,
