Can Oils Stop You From Crying?

Hey, Gavin here. There is an ongoing joke in our home that if someone needs to be distracted from crying or something else the response is, “Do you want to go and smell something?”

This comes from when our youngest was 2 years old and one evening she started crying (for some reason I do not remember). I could see that my wonderful wife was tired from a long day, and I personally had been working on three new prototype blends for Restore Hope Oils.

I looked over at my youngest and said, “Hey!” (in a very excited voice)
She stopped her continual crying long enough to say in a sniffling voice, “What Daddy?”
I said, “Do you want to go and smell something?!”

She immediately said, “Yes!” We went into my home office and I let her smell the first version of our Pure Happy good day essential oil blend. She said, “I like it Daddy!” and immediately stopped crying.
Carrie (my wife) and my two older girls just started laughing and it has since become a family line.
But, in all seriousness the question is, “Can an essential oil change a person’s mood that quick?” I want to share with you three single oils I love to apply when a brighter mood is needed.

A wonderful floral and citrus scent. Similar in size to an Orange the oil is expressed or cold pressed from the rhine before it is ripe. An amazing oil with great emotional balancing properties.

Bergamot

Bergamot – Citrus bergamia – a citrus oil with great capacity to aid fluctuating moods of anxiousness and depressive feelings.

Holmes says that Bergamot essential oil promotes emotional stability. He recommends Bergamot oil for reducing irritability, moodiness, frustration, mood swings and emotional instability.

Application Ideas:

Apply 2-3 drops with Fractionated Coconut Oil to the neck and shoulders for mood support.

Add 8-10 drops to your diffuser to help aid anxious feelings and nervous tension.

Bergamot

Geranium – Pelargonium graveolens – Floral oil with great capacity when feeling I am feeling overwhelmed.

Mojay states that Geranium can help convey a feeling of calm strength and security, and recommends using it for both chronic and acute anxiety, especially when one is feeling nervous exhaustion due to stress and overwork.

Application Ideas:

Apply 1-2 drops with Fractionated Coconut Oil to the bottom of the wrists to smell throughout the day.

Apply 2 drops with Fractionated Coconut Oil over the kidney area (lower back) and down towards the sacrum to support proper adrenal function.

Geranium

Litsea Cubeba (May Chang) – a small fragrant tropical tree that grows in the eastern Himalayan regions. We steam distill the small pepper like fruits.

Battaglia mentions that Litsea oil helps to promote optimism, vision, and foresight whenever there is pessimism, negative thinking and loss of vision.

This is one of Carrie’s favorite scents and a key essential oils in our Pure Stability Essential Oil Blend.

Application Ideas:

Diffuse 8-10 drops in the home or office to help purify the air and lift the emotional mood.

Apply 2 drops with Fractionated Coconut Oil to the abdomen to support proper digestion and feelings of anxiety.

If managing stress and mood are a challenge for you, give one of these oils a try.
